Abstract
The pelvic bone fracture was more frequent due to traffic accidents and industrial negligences in more recent times and presented many difficult problems in its treatment. The authors had reviewed 64 cases of the pelvic bone fracture treated at the Orthopaedic Department of Soon Chun Hyang Medical College General Hospital from May, 1974 to October, 1977 and analyzed the causes of injury, the type of fracture, the complication of fracture, the average duration of treatment, frequency of age and end results.
The clinical analysis were obtained as follows:
1. The causes of injury were mostly traffic accident; (93.7%), falling (4.68%), industrial injury (1.56%) and others (4%).
2. The ratio was much greater in male than in female. (male:71.8%, female: 28. 2%) .
3. These were shown to be 21 to 40 years old (51.5%), 41 to 69 years old (33.3%), over 70 years old (6%), and under the 22 years old (4.6%).
4. The most important emergency care of the pelvic, bone fracture was replacement of massive blood for massive loss of blood in the retroperitoneal cavity at emergency Room.
5. All cases except urethra and bladder injury, and severe acetabular fracture, were treated for 4 to 8 weeks by bed rest, skin traction and general care.
6. The open fracture of pelvic bone was almost fatal because of ominous blood loss, and rupture of viscera and large vessel.
